China's unicorn companies are emerging rapidly across various sectors, including aerospace, integrated circuits, fintech, new retail, and smart logistics.
Unicorns, unlisted startups valued at over one billion U.S. dollars and less than ten years old, serve as a key indicator of a region's innovation ecosystem and economic vibrancy.
Galactic Energy, a Beijing-based unicorn specializing in commercial aerospace, was founded just seven years ago. This company has become China's private enterprise with the highest number of rocket launches and the best launch success rate.
Galactic Energy is currently the only private rocket company in China capable of conducting both land and sea launches. It has successfully launched 81 satellites into orbit and has secured orders through 2026. According to the company's leadership, it has raised nearly five billion yuan in funding and is valued at 16 billion yuan. The company's rapid growth in recent years is also credited to strong government support for the aerospace industry.
Building on advantages such as top talent, cutting-edge technology, and abundant capital, Beijing has also implemented targeted policies to support unicorn companies. The Chinese capital leads the nation with 115 unicorn companies valued at a total of 594.9 billion U.S. dollars. The city supports these firms through targeted policies that assist with listings, workspace provision, and talent settlement. Additionally, it offers a dedicated "steward" service to promptly address their challenges, ensuring ongoing support for their growth.
The retail sector also has its own "unicorn". Recently, lychees from Yangjiang, a century-old lychee-producing town in Guangdong Province, have been able to reach stores nationwide within just three days. Qian Dama Group, a unicorn enterprise, has created a seamless supply chain, connecting farmland directly to the dining table through base procurement, effectively solving the challenge of preserving perishable agricultural products.
Qian Dama Group has also pioneered the integration of online and offline retail, implementing full-process digital operations from supply chain to sales by adopting intelligent, data-driven management systems. Today, Qian Dama Group operates over 3,000 stores across China, strictly following a "daily clearance" model and a "timed discount" system to ensure all food is sold on the same day.
