The 17th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held under the theme of "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance" on Sunday and Monday, is set to mark a historic milestone.
It will be the first convening of BRICS - an acronym derived from its first five members: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - under an expanded format that now includes 11 full member states and 10 partner countries.
In January this year, Indonesia, the largest economy in ASEAN, officially joined BRICS. Today, BRICS countries account for over half of the world's population, nearly 30 percent of global GDP, and more than 50 percent of global economic growth.
