Storyline

China's Tianzhou-9 cargo spacecraft launched on Tuesday delivered approximately 6.5 tonnes of equipment and supplies to the country's space station Tiangong, setting a new cargo payload record for the space station's application and development phase.

Among the items delivered aboard Tianzhou-9 are two sets of extravehicular spacesuits. Guided by the principle of refining design with a forward-looking perspective, the new spacesuits were careful optimized and improved based on previous extravehicular flight verification when they were being made.

Ground and in-orbit testing have helped accumulate data for performance evaluation and lifespan estimation. The designed service life of the spacesuits now extends from 15 missions in three years to 20 missions in four years.

In addition, a core muscle training device carried by Tianzhou-9 will be installed on the bulkhead of the Wentian lab module.

Designed for future long-duration missions, the device will enhance astronauts' core muscle training, effectively preventing atrophy of paraspinal muscles and alleviating muscle pain upon return to Earth, thereby shortening recovery time.

Furthermore, the cargo craft brought to space three new cellular biology experimental samples.

Among them, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells will be used to study bone loss caused by prolonged absence of gravitational stimulation.

Cells derived from failing hearts will assist in exploring effective therapeutic solutions.

A humanized vascular organoid model will support research into anti-aging strategies.

Meanwhile, more than 1.5 tonnes of space food will also be delivered with Tianzhou-9, including traditional Chinese dishes that are diverse in composition and form.

Researchers have continuously improved the production techniques of space food to best preserve the original texture, color, flavor, and nutritional value, enabling astronauts to enjoy the authentic taste of Earth even while in orbit.
