U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States will send weapons to Ukraine through NATO, and threatened "severe tariffs" targeting Russia if a ceasefire deal is not reached in 50 days.
Trump announced an agreement with NATO regarding weapons to assist Ukraine while meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office.
He said "we are going to be sending them weapons and they're going to be paying for them," adding that the United States will manufacture those weapons.
Trump said that some military equipment, including the Patriot air defense system, will arrive in Ukraine within a few days. He added that some European countries will transfer their Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
Trump said of Russia that "we're going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don't have a deal within 50 days. It's very simple. And they'll be at 100 percent."
