China-Goitered Gazelle/Xinjiang
Wensu County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China - Recent (CCTV - No access Chinese mainland)
1. Various of goitered gazelles roaming, grazing
A herd of goitered gazelles, a species under second-class national protection in China, was recently spotted in the Gobi Desert in Wensu, a county in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The images captured show the agile goitered gazelles blending seamlessly into the rugged desert landscape with their sleek, brown coats. The animals were seen sometimes grazing in a small group in fields where there is hardy vegetation such as camelthorn, or standing alert to their surroundings.
Their existence adds a dynamic touch of life in an otherwise barren expanse of sandy land.
Goitered gazelles typically inhabit arid and semi-arid zones. As they have high requirements for the integrity of their habitat and the richness of vegetation, their presence is considered a direct indicator of habitat quality and vegetation health.
In China, they are primarily distributed across northwestern provinces, with the Tarim Basin serving as one of their key habitats.
