Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday stressed the need to firmly establish and implement the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and urged efforts to write a new chapter in the building of ecological civilization in the new era.
Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the National Ecology Day main event and at a symposium on putting this concept into practice.
Li urged for greater efforts in building even more beautiful green mountains and clear waters, and to increase their value through green development.
He noted that since the concept "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" was proposed by President Xi Jinping 20 years ago , its theoretical substance and practical application have continuously deepened and expanded, becoming a consensus and guiding principle for the entire Party and society.
The premier pointed out that China's economic and social development has entered a high-quality stage characterized by accelerated greening and low-carbon transformation.
Efforts must be made to persistently and thoroughly fight the battle against pollution while enhancing the diversity, stability, and sustainability of ecosystems, Li said.
The spatial planning for development and conservation should be continuously optimized to promote green and low-carbon industrial transformation, he added.
Additionally, institutional mechanisms for ecological progress must be innovated, and resolute and pragmatic measures should be taken to advance global ecological conservation, according to Li.
