Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook will file a lawsuit over President Donald Trump's order to fire her from the position, Cook's attorney Abbe Lowell said on Tuesday.
"His attempt to fire her, based solely on a referral letter, lacks any factual or legal basis. We will be filing a lawsuit challenging this illegal action," said the attorney.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday fired Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook over allegations that she committed mortgage fraud.
"Pursuant to my authority under Article II of the Constitution of the United States and the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, as amended, you are hereby removed from your position on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, effective immediately," Trump wrote in a letter to Cook, posted on his Truth Social platform Monday.
Cook said in a Monday statement: "President Trump purported to fire me 'for cause' when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so. I will not resign."
