2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Ma Zhaoxu, vice foreign minister:
"The great victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression marked a historic turning point for the Chinese nation to emerge from a deep crisis and move towards a great rejuvenation in modern times. It had a significant and far-reaching impact on the great cause of the people of all countries in the world to win the anti-fascist war and strive for world peace. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China (in 1949), China has stayed committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, put forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, advocated promoting world multi-polarization and democratization of international relations, and made important contributions to the cause of world peace and development."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Ma Zhaoxu, vice foreign minister (partially overlaid with shot 5):
"From a historical perspective, President Xi Jinping, with a focus on the common interests of the Chinese people and the people around the world, and with his broad strategic insight, extraordinary political wisdom and deep commitment to the world as the leader of a major party and a major country, has developed a keen understanding of the prevailing trends and laws governing the evolution of human society. He foresightedly put forth the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, which has answered the question -- where should humanity be headed -- a question of the world, a question of history, and a question of our times, set the course for world peace and development at a historical turning point, and contributed to building a strong consensus for the common progress of humanity."
