6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Ma Zhaoxu, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister (partially overlaid with shot 7):
"High-quality Belt and Road cooperation has been further deepened and substantiated. More than 150 countries have joined the big family of Belt and Road cooperation. These efforts have made this path to the greater happiness of the world ever broader and more inclusive. China has announced eight actions supporting global development, and has also granted zero-tariff treatment covering 100 percent tariff lines to all least developed countries (LDCs) that have established diplomatic relations with China. President Xi proposed the Global Development Initiative (GDI) with a very aim of refocusing the international community's attention on development issues, and renewing our commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Over 100 countries and international organizations have supported and participated in cooperation under this initiative. More than 80 countries have joined the group of friends of this initiative. The practical cooperation within the framework of this initiative has brought tangible benefits to the people in many countries."

China stays committed to advancing global cooperation on development and providing more opportunities for the rest of the world through its own modernization drive and high-level opening up, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said on Friday.
Ma was speaking at a press conference in Beijing on activities marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, when asked about China's role in promoting global development amid rising unilateralism and protectionism.
He said that against the backdrop of rising unilateralism and protectionism, which are impacting the recovery of the world economy and causing a lack of momentum in international development cooperation, implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is seriously lagging behind.
He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed the need for openness, saying that China's development cannot be separated from the rest of the world, and global prosperity also needs China.
"China is constantly bringing new opportunities to the world through its own new development, and promoting modernization across the globe with Chinese modernization. China is unswervingly committed to expanding high-standard opening up, promoting the construction of an open world economic system, promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, upholding the WTO-centered multilateral trading system, and maintaining stable and smooth operation of global industrial and supply chains," Ma said.

With the world economy losing steam and development divides widening, Ma urged the international community to strengthen solidarity and partnerships, so as to benefit the people around the world.
