1. Various of giant panda babies, including white and grey "Cheng Shi," meeting public; breeders
A group of baby giant pandas are thriving in their joyful environment at the Star Giant Panda Nursery House in southwest China's Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
The cubs were each born in 2025 and made their first public appearance in August.
Among these adorable young bears is a male panda named "Cheng Shi," notable for his unique white-and-grey fur, which sets him apart from the typical black-and-white pandas.
Researchers have explained that Cheng Shi's striking coloration results from a sparser distribution of black hairs, creating a blend with white hairs to give the appearance of grey patches. As he matures, he is expected to adopt the classic look of his peers by the time he turns one year old.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a globally recognized center for the conservation, research, and breeding of giant pandas. It also serves as an educational hub and tourism site.
As a model project for the ex-situ conservation of giant pandas, it is renowned for its protection and breeding of giant pandas, red pandas, and other endangered wildlife species unique to China.
