Storyline

A major power grid project is preparing in full swing for official operation in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is expected to ensure stable power supply and support local development.

The final stretch of the 750kV Tarim Basin Rim Power Grid, which spans from Hetian to Minfeng, Qiemo, and Ruoqiang, was completed in July, marking the completion of the main body of the power grid layout.

This section cuts through the Kunlun Mountains, rugged desert hills, and the edge of the desert, making it one of the most challenging and complex parts of the entire project.

Confronting frequent sandstorms and undulating terrains, construction teams relentlessly advanced through mountains and deserts, overcoming severe natural obstacles.

Once fully completed, this power grid spans approximately 1.08 million square kilometers, forming a closed loop that will provide a more robust and stable power supply for southern Xinjiang.

Constructors said this grid will also pave the way for the region's energy transformation and contribute to its high-quality development.

"Xinjiang, particularly its southern region, is rich in solar and wind energy resources. Once completed, the project will integrate the photovoltaic power, offering reliable support for the region's economic growth. Once operational, the 750kV Power Grid will become the largest 750kV power grid loop in China, covering 1.08 million square kilometers. It will also transform Xinjiang's linear power supply structure," said Zhang Jun, project manager of the power grid substation in Minfeng County.

"Ruoqiang County is endowed with abundant wind and solar resources. Once completed, the Power Grid will meet the surplus power transmission needs of Ruoqiang, ensuring a stable and large-scale supply of renewable energy to the surrounding areas and supporting the region's sustainable energy development," said Cheng Zhigang, head of the substation project in Ruoqiang County.
