Storyline

Gold prices climbed to a record high for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the U.S. government shutdown and softer labor data fueled demand for safe-haven assets.

Spot gold rose over 1 percent to 3,912 U.S. dollars per ounce by 1130 GMT.

Gold has rallied nearly 5 percent over the last five trading days, and over 40 percent since the beginning of 2025, on pace for its best year since 1979.
