A cold front ripped through north China's Shanxi Province and the capital city of Beijing on Saturday, bringing snowfall, rain and low temperatures which disrupted traffic in the regions.
In Shanxi, snow and rain triggered slippery conditions on some expressways on Saturday.
To ensure safety, the traffic police immediately implemented temporary traffic control measures on affected sections. They also enhanced patrols and used sirens and loudspeakers to alert drivers to exercise caution. As a precaution measure, passenger vehicles with seven or more seats and hazardous material transport vehicles were prohibited from entering the expressways.
On Saturday evening, snowflakes blanketed multiple locations including the Olympic Zone in Beijing's Yanqing District and Jiangshuihe Village in Qingshui Town, Mentougou District.
Most areas of Beijing will experience strong winds on Sunday. Beijing remains under a blue alert for cold waves and strong winds -- the lowest in China’s four-tier weather warning system.
