Storyline

The Shanghai government has stepped up efforts, upgrading measures to ensure the food and special equipment safety for the upcoming eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The 8th CIIE is scheduled to open on Wednesday and will run for six days.

For this year's CIIE, the city's market supervision department unveiled its independently developed AI-enhanced system on food safety.

The system is able to conduct intelligent menu review, food-related risk prediction and assessment, and provide risk control suggestions to ensure food safety compliance.

"We are using the AI to analyze and review the menus provided by enterprises. This enhances the intelligence and convenience of our risk warnings, ensures that our risk assessments are more comprehensive and scientific, and offers more targeted and efficient risk control recommendations," said Qiu Conggan, deputy director of the Office of Market Supervision and Services at the 8th CIIE.
To handle the large visitor flows during the expo, relevant departments conducted multiple rounds of emergency drills in advance, focusing on escalator evacuation and coordinated response to any emergency.

This year, apart from the 28 escalators in the four entrance halls of the main event venue, the 16 escalators in the commercial area of the site have also been equipped with real-time passenger flow monitoring and early-warning systems.

According to relevant authorities, the intelligent and informatization technologies will ensure rapid detection, swift response, and efficient handling of emergencies.

"The usage of intelligent equipment has been expanded from the peripheral areas to the inner commercial zone. All incidents will be notified through information-based means. The four main entrances and exits, as well as the commercial zone, are the areas with the highest foot traffic. We will ensure that any emergencies can be handled within two minutes, so as to do better support work for the 8th CIIE," said Wang Qiang, deputy director of the Special Equipment Safety Supervision Division of the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation.

Held annually in Shanghai since 2018, the CIIE is the world's first import-themed national-level exhibition.
