And there is no country that is betting so much on this new economy than China by really concentrating on technologies, on scale, on quality, and in finding solutions that really, at the end, benefit everybody."

Storyline

President Andre Correa do Lago of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) has highly commented on China's pragmatic role in global climate action and strong investment in green technologies.

The COP30 will be held on Nov. 10-21 in Brazil's Amazon city of Belem, bringing world leaders together to discuss climate action and global commitments.

The conference will take place about two months after the United Nations Climate Summit 2025 held in New York in late September.

"Leaders are committed. This means that internally, these countries are working on that subject and are finding solutions to make sure that the quality of life of the population increases, the number of jobs increases, the countries grow, and at the same time you fight climate change," Andre Correa do Lago told China Global Television Network (CGTN) in New York.

In his video remarks to the United Nations Climate Summit 2025, President Xi Jinping announced China's climate goals the country aims to reach by 2035, including reducing economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions by seven to 10 percent from peak levels, and increasing the share of non-fossil fuels in total energy consumption to over 30 percent, and expanding wind and solar power capacity sixfold compared to 2020 levels.

Andre Correa do Lago spoked highly of China's climate commitment.

"And I think that China has a very elegant attitude, that they don't give lessons to other countries like sometimes some countries do. And they do the best they can do. And this has been somehow a revolution in this new economy that is emerging. And there is no country that is betting so much on this new economy than China by really concentrating on technologies, on scale, on quality, and in finding solutions that really, at the end, benefit everybody," he said.

The upcoming COP30 is expected to guide climate-related negotiations, with an agenda focused on climate and nature, energy transition, Paris Agreement implementation review, nationally determined contributions and climate finance.
