Storyline

The ongoing Eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) has gathered leading global medical enterprises, showcasing numerous cutting-edge medical innovations with advanced technological content.

The Eighth CIIE entered its third day on Friday, having launched a four-day concentrated new product release event starting on Thursday.

"Global debut" stands out as the most prominent keyword in the Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products Exhibition Area of the expo.

For instance, a globally debuted CT scanner can complete a full heart scan within a heartbeat, earning the title of world's fastest CT machine. Over 10 other cutting-edge medical devices are also making their Asian or Chinese debut.

Except large equipment, smaller devices also show strong competitiveness. The orthopedic robot displayed had previously appeared at CIIE in 2024. This year, it has added capabilities for spinal surgeries and trauma procedures like fracture treatments, making its debut appearance at this year.

Equipped with advanced AI algorithms, this surgical robot can easily switch between five indication modes simply by installing different end tools, effectively assisting doctors in improving surgical accuracy and reducing operation time.

"The CIIE provides us with a platform for intellectual exchange. We've seen more opportunities and realized how much more room we have to grow and to achieve. After each CIIE every year, we go back and summarize what we learned, so our products continue to develop alongside the expo," said Meng Li Aili, chairman of Yuanhua Robotics, Perception and AI Technologies Ltd.

In the exhibition area, a large number of innovative drugs have gained market approval as the CIIE has helped accelerate the procedures. Several antibiotics and drugs for rare disease were presented as concept descriptions last year but this year they made their real debut after their actual products obtained market access.

"We plan to introduce 40 innovative products and indications in China over the next five years. We've established an innovation cooperation center in Beijing specifically to collaborate with China's innovative enterprises and ecosystem partners, accelerating the clinical transformation of China's breakthrough innovations with higher quality and faster speed," said Zheng Yiman, vice president of Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD) China.

Every exhibitor brings the latest cutting-edge products to the CIIE to seize development opportunities arising from China's continuously expanding openness.

"As an innovative pharmaceutical company, we deeply feel the significant changes brought by China's high-level opening-up measures. For instance, the current priority drug review policies help our products gain market approval faster. These developments give us great confidence to continue investing in China and accelerating innovation," said Chen Qi, CFO of Bayer China.

"The CIIE creates an excellent platform for us to communicate more openly with government departments, domestic enterprises, and multinational companies. This further strengthens our determination to deepen our roots in China and develop within the market in China," said Tang Xiaochun, general manager of Sanofi Vaccine Great China.

This year's CIIE, themed "New Era, Shared Future", runs from Nov 5 to 10. It features the largest exhibition area in its history and a record 4,108 overseas exhibitors from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations.

Since its inception, the CIIE has stood as a vital gateway for foreign companies to tap new partnership opportunities with China, linking international enterprises with China's super-sized market.
