Upholding the one-China principle is the right thing to do and is where the arc of history bends and public opinion trends, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a regular briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Mao made the statement in response to a media query regarding recent contact by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with the Chinese side to explore the possibility of developing relations with China.

"The one-China principle is a prevailing international consensus and a basic norm in international relations.
