2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi's erroneous remarks seriously violated the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, eroded the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and triggered outrage among the Chinese people. 'Stop referring to' is not the same as 'retracting' the remarks. The two are completely different in nature. The Japanese side hopes to downplay Prime Minister Takaichi's erroneous remarks and make it go away by 'not referring to' them. That is just self-deceiving and wishful thinking, and China would absolutely not accept that."

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday slammed Japan for attempting to downplay and fob off Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's provocative remarks on China's Taiwan, calling such efforts "self-deceptive" and unacceptable.
"Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi's erroneous remarks seriously violated the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, eroded the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and triggered outrage among the Chinese people," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun at a press conference.
Guo said Takaichi's claim that she would avoid discussing specific scenarios in the future is entirely different from formally retracting the erroneous remarks.
