Storyline

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his visiting Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, stressed on Sunday that countries in the Middle East region need to make joint efforts against Israel's aggressions.

Speaking at a joint press conference following their talks in Tehran earlier in the day, Araghchi told reporters the two sides discussed key issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, underscoring that countries in the region are facing the common challenge of Israel's expansion and aggressions.

"The Gaza ceasefire agreement has been repeatedly violated. Moreover, Israel's recent attacks on Lebanon and Syria show that the regime seeks to undermine regional stability. Countries in the region have a responsibility to stop Israel's aggressions against countries like Syria and Lebanon," he said.

For his part, Fidan said Israel must stop its strikes on Palestinian territories. He also slammed Israel for expanding the scope of "aggressions" against countries in West Asia, calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the issue of Syria and Israel's "expanding aggressions" in the region.

Commenting on Iran's nuclear issue, he said Türkiye had always stood and would continue to stand by Iran, stressing, "We maintain that such differences should be resolved within the international law framework and through dialogue."

On the same day, Araghchi also met with visiting Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Saud bin Mohammed Al-Sati.

The two senior diplomats reviewed ways to advance bilateral ties and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Araghchi condemned what he called Israel's ongoing "genocide and crimes" in the occupied Palestinian territories and its "aggressions" against Lebanon and Syria, calling them the biggest threat to peace and stability in West Asia and beyond.

He urged more effective cooperation and coordination among the regional and Muslim states to curb Israel's "warmongering and law-breaking" in West Asia.

The Saudi diplomat, for his part, underlined his country's position on the need for enhanced regional cooperation to safeguard peace and stability.
