"The defeat of Japanese militarism and German-Italian fascism is the result of peoples worldwide resisting that global catastrophe, which claimed tens of millions of lives. Therefore, the [post-war] international law possesses legitimate authority and must be defended. We must remember that during WWII, Japan employed provocative rhetoric identical to that of Sanae Takaichi to justify its aggressive policies. By amending the Japanese Constitution to lift restrictions on collective self-defense and enable foreign intervention, Japan is openly attempting to pursue re-militarization. This constitutes a departure from post-war principles, which is rooted in Japan's profound blindness toward its own wartime crimes in history."

Storyline

Chinese and French experts and scholars have expressed grave concerns over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent erroneous remarks on China's Taiwan region, warning that such a statement represents a destabilizing factor for the region and can be seen as an attempt to revive militarism.

Last month, Takaichi said at a Diet hearing that the Chinese central authorities' "use of force on Taiwan" could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan and implied the possibility of armed Japanese intervention in the Taiwan Strait.

"Amidst today's extremely tense international relations and escalating friction between nations, both China and France must speak out for peace. Therefore, understanding history is crucial, which helps us avoid repeating past mistakes," said Franck Ferrand, a French historian and writer.

"Some French politicians and historians have also noticed [Sanae] Takaichi's remarks. Some of them explicitly expressed their shock, stating clearly to me that such statements represent a destabilizing factor for China and all of Asia. Japan must understand there are red lines that cannot be crossed," said Su Zhiliang, a professor at Shanghai Normal University.
