Storyline

China's economy maintained the stable performance while at the same time securing progress in November, and the country will manage to promote effective qualitative improvement and reasonable quantitative growth in the economy in the next step, said a spokesman of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.

At a press conference in Beijing, Fu Linghui, the spokesperson and the chief economist of the NBS, briefed the media on the country's economic performance in November.

Specifically, China has achieved another year of bumper grain harvest in 2025, with grain output remaining stable at over 700 million metric tons.

In the same month, the industrial, services, and sales sectors all saw steady growth in November, with the added value of industries above the designated size (those each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan or 2.84 million U.S. dollars) nationwide increasing by 4.8 percent year on year and 0.44 percent month on month, respectively, the national service sector production index increasing by 4.2 percent year on year, and total retail sales of consumer goods reaching 4,389.8 billion yuan (about 622.27 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 1.3 percent.

"In general, the national economy operated smoothly in November, continuing its steady and progressive development trend. However, numerous external uncertainties and insufficient domestic effective demand are posing significant challenges to economic operation. In the next stage, we must adhere to the general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, implement more proactive and effective macroeconomic policies, continuously expand domestic demand, optimize supply, improve incremental growth, revitalize existing assets, and focus on stabilizing employment, businesses, markets, and expectations to promote effective qualitative improvement and reasonable quantitative growth in the economy," said Fu.
