The Russian armed forces have established a brigade equipped with the new hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile Oreshnik, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said Thursday at a press briefing for Foreign Military officers.
On the same day, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that the Oreshnik missile systems had been deployed to their first positions in Belarus on Wednesday and are about to begin combat alert duty.
Russia's Oreshnik missile system can carry nuclear warheads and strike targets at a speed of Mach 10.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the new missile "currently cannot be intercepted".
