"Upholding the outcomes of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and safeguarding the post-war international order is the shared responsibility of the international community, including China and the U.S. Justice and righteousness reside in the hearts of the people. It must be pointed out that the fallacious remarks made by [Japanese] Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have not only aroused strong indignation among the Chinese people, but have also met with many objective and rational voices of opposition and criticism within Japan, in U.S. strategic circles, and across the international community."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"What Japan should do is to earnestly listen and engage in profound reflection, rather than making sophistry and lobbying around the world, shifting responsibility and seeking allies. We once again urge the Japanese side to seriously reflect on and correct its mistakes, honestly retract Prime Minister Takaichi's erroneous remarks, fully and accurately state the political commitments it has made on the Taiwan question in the four China-Japan political documents, and earnestly fulfill the obligations of a defeated country as stipulated in documents with full validity under international law, including the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender."
