2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The U.S. large-scale arms sales to Taiwan constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs, seriously undermine China's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and severely disrupt peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, sending a gravely wrong signal to Taiwan separatist forces and the international community. China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to this and has immediately lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"China's core interests are not subject to undermining, the Taiwan question brooks no external interference, and China's bottom line must not to be crossed! Taiwan separatism is incompatible with peace across the Taiwan Strait. Any arm sales to Taiwan will face serious consequences. The true threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait comes from the separatist activities of the Lai Ching-te authorities and external interference. The so-called 'assistance for Taiwan in response to threats' will only fuel the arrogance of Taiwan separatism, putting the people in Taiwan on a powder keg and pushing the Taiwan Strait toward a dangerous situation. This will inevitably heighten the risks of China-U.S. conflict and confrontation. No one and no force should underestimate the strong will and ability of the Chinese government and people to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Guo Jiakun, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"No matter how many advanced weapons are sold to Taiwan, they cannot hinder the historical trend that China will eventually and surely be reunified. China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. China urges the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, act on its leaders' serious commitments, stop the dangerous act of arming Taiwan, stop undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan separatist forces."
