Storyline


Taoiseach of Ireland Micheal Martin arrived in Beijing on Sunday afternoon for an official visit to China, marking the first visit by an Irish leader to China in 14 years.

During his five-day visit, Martin is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and hold talks respectively with Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji to have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. In addition to Beijing, Martin will also visit Shanghai, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Saturday.

The spokesperson said that the China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation has enjoyed robust development in recent years. Through this visit, China stands ready to work with Ireland to enhance political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and provide new impetus to pursue high-quality development and the advancement of China-EU relations in the new era.
