"I welcome you to your new posts. Some of you have been here for a few months and are getting to know what today's China is really like. China is vast. Some leaders from developed countries who visited Shanghai in the past exclaimed, 'You're so amazing.' I told them a story we have in China about 'blind men touching an elephant.' The elephant is very large. If a blind man touches one of its legs, he will say the elephant is like a pillar; if he touches its belly, he will say the elephant is like a wall. But that is not the complete picture. In a place like China, development is uneven, and its culture is diverse. To truly understand it, you need to form a comprehensive impression and gain a comprehensive understanding of the real China. This is very beneficial for us to establish strong bilateral and multilateral relationships. I hope you will travel more frequently and explore more."

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged a group of new foreign ambassadors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the real China as he formally welcomed them to their posts at a ceremony in Beijing on Friday.
Xi received the credentials of 18 new ambassadors to China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.
In a speech following the credentials presentation ceremony, Xi warmly welcomed the ambassadors to their positions and asked them to convey his best wishes to the leaders and people of their respective countries.
He also expressed the hope that the diplomatic envoys will travel widely in China to gain a true, multi-dimensional understanding of the country, and make positive contributions to deepening friendship and cooperation between China and their own countries.

In his address, Xi also noted that the world today is undergoing accelerating changes on a scale rarely seen in a century, with the international landscape beset by transformation and turbulence, and global challenges becoming more prominent.
Division, confrontation and zero-sum games have no future, and returning the world to the law of the jungle is not what people want to see, Xi said, adding that global solidarity and cooperation are the only right choices.
