"China has made a response to the ruling of Panama's Supreme Court on the relevant ports. The Hong Kong SAR government issued a statement thereon as well. China will firmly defend the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies. Let me stress that the words and moves of the United States have again shown its Cold-War mentality and ideological bias. It is quite clear to the world who exactly is seeking to forcibly own the Panama Canal and eroding international law in the name of the rule of law."

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday the international community is quite clear about who is seeking to seize the Panama Canal, and the relevant remarks by the U.S. side regarding Panama's Supreme Court's ruling against CK Hutchison reveal the Cold-War mentality and ideological bias of the United States.
According to media reports, Panama's Supreme Court last week annulled the contract granted to Hong Kong-based conglomerate CK Hutchison for operating the Panama terminals.
China will firmly protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies, said Lin Jian, the spokesman, at a daily press briefing in Beijing.
