Regardless of who leads Japan or which political party is in power, Japan must abide by the four political documents between China and Japan, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a regular briefing in Beijing on Monday.

Lin made the statement in response to a media inquiry about Japan's general election held on Sunday.

"China never interferes in other countries' internal affairs, and firmly opposes erroneous remarks and moves that interfere in China's internal affairs, infringe upon China's core interests, violate international law and the basic norms in international relations, or undermine regional peace and stability," Lin said.

"Our policy toward Japan is clear, stable, and consistent. Regardless of who leads Japan or which political party is in power, Japan must abide by the four political documents between China and Japan, as well as Japan's pacifist constitution, and fulfill its commitments and international obligations," said the spokesman.
