1. Floating ice
2. Various of researchers working on China's polar research vessel Xuelong, facilities on board, survey missions in progress
3. Various of samples collected
4. Various of researchers releasing subsurface buoys
The Chinese polar research icebreaker Xuelong has completed all scheduled oceanographic survey operations in the Amundsen Sea during China's 42nd Antarctic expedition as of Thursday, marking steady progress in the country's polar scientific research.
During the mission, the ocean team aboard the Xuelong carried out a series of scientific tasks, including conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) observations and water sampling, vertical biological net tows, krill trawling, midwater fish trawling and benthic trawling.
Chinese researchers collected a batch of high-value scientific specimens from the Southern Ocean, encompassing Antarctic krill, midwater fish, and deep-sea benthic organisms.
In addition, the team has successfully retrieved three subsurface moorings deployed in the region one year ago and installed three new sets.
The operations will provide sustained support for long-term, continuous observation in the targeted sea area.
