Fireworks shows and red lantern installations lit up many Chinese cities to mark the arrival of the Spring Festival on Tuesday, the most important holiday on the lunar calendar.
In Changchun, capital of northeastern Jilin Province, the spectacular fireworks show at Changchun Ice and Snow New World painted the night sky, while vibrant ice sculptures created a breathtaking winter wonderland.
The park welcomed approximately 140,000 visitors from the Little New Year, observed on the 23rd of the traditional Chinese calendar in northern China, through Chinese New Year's Eve on Monday.
"It's so lively and full of the festive atmosphere to celebrate the Chinese New Year's Eve with so many friends! Family reunion and well-being -- that’s what a happy Chinese New Year truly means. I wish our country continued prosperity and peace!" said Meng Fei, a tourist.
On Chinese New Year's Eve on Monday, the lantern fair in Jinan, in east China's Shandong Province, was lit up as scheduled, illuminating the "City of Springs". Taking a stroll by the springs during the Spring Festival is believed to bring good luck for the coming year. The continuously gushing springs symbolize unending blessings, while exquisite lanterns are interwoven with the city's classical garden architecture.

In Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan Province, a night market also hosted a dazzling firework show to celebrate the Year of the Horse. Sparkling fireworks lit up the night sky above the Lancang River, while thousands of lanterns illuminated the lively market below.
