The National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, will hold its annual session from March 5 to 12 in Beijing, a spokesperson for the session said on Wednesday.
Lou Qinjian, the spokesman, was speaking at a press conference held in Beijing one day before the start of the annual gathering of the NPC.
More than 2,800 national lawmakers will attend this year's session, Lou said, adding that the eight-day gathering has 11 items on its agenda.
According to the spokesman, NPC deputies will deliberate the report on the work of the government; review the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year (2026-2030) Plan for national economic and social development; and review the report on the implementation of the 2025 plan for national economic and social development, the report on the 2026 draft plan, the 2026 draft plan for national economic and social development, as well as the report on the execution of the central and local budgets for 2025 and on the draft budgets for 2026.
Other key items include the deliberation of proposals for the draft environmental code, for the draft law on promoting ethnic unity and progress, and for the draft law on national development planning.
Also to be deliberated are the respective work reports of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, said Lou.
Lastly, the deputies will also deliberate the report on the legal clean-up work and on opinions regarding the handling of relevant laws and decisions, he said.

The upcoming NPC session is part of China's "two sessions" for 2026, along with the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, which is set to open on Wednesday afternoon in Beijing.
The "two sessions," which gather national lawmakers and political advisors from across China every year to discuss state affairs, are a major event in the country's political calendar and an important window for the rest of the world to observe and understand China's policy direction.
