Russia and Ukraine completed an exchange of 400 captives on Thursday, with 200 prisoners released by each side, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the return of 200 Ukrainian soldiers in a post on social media platform X on Thursday.
Russia's presidential aide, Vladimir Medinsky, said the prisoner swap on Thursday is being conducted as part of the agreements reached in Geneva, Switzerland. Under these agreements, Russia and Ukraine will each release a total of 500 prisoners on Thursday and Friday.
The two-day negotiations, held in Geneva on Feb. 17-18, were the third round of trilateral talks this year between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.
