Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Fu said China welcomes the progress made by the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in maintaining positive engagement with Syria's transitional government on outstanding chemical weapons issues and conducting field investigations at 20 locations across the country.

Fu emphasized that the principles of verifiable and irreversible destruction of chemical weapons, as stipulated in the Chemical Weapons Convention, must be strictly observed.

He also highlighted that counterterrorism remains one of the international community's key priorities in addressing the Syria issue.

"We call on Syria's transitional government to fulfill its international obligations and take all effective measures to resolutely combat all international terrorist groups designated by the UN Security Council, including the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement organization.
