Storyline

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a broad measure of goods and services costs across the U.S. economy, rose 2.4 percent year on year in February, according to data the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Wednesday.

The core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, posted a 0.2 percent monthly gain and a 2.5 percent annual rate, in line with economists' estimates.

Analysts said the figures reflect U.S. inflation before Israel and the United Stated launched military operations .against Iran. With the recent surge in international oil prices and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the possibility of a rebound in U.S. inflationary pressure cannot be ruled out, they said.
