Tailored to Chinese tourists' consumption habits and preferences, China's second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, will be better adapted to meet the demands of the growing family-oriented and silver hair tourism market.
The vessel was undocked in Shanghai earlier Friday, moving a step closer to trial voyages and final delivery, as China expands its push into the cruise tourism market, according to its builder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
The Adora Flora City, with a gross tonnage of over 140,000, measures 341 meters in length and 37.2 meters in width. The vessel has 2,130 rooms and can accommodate more than 5,200 passengers.
Compared with the country's first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, the new vessel features a series of design and construction upgrades. According to its builder, the ship is 17.4 meters longer, and offers expanded public areas and enhanced onboard comfort.
"The main improvement lies in the enlargement of space, offering more possibilities for the ship's interior design. Additionally, we upgraded its environmental friendliness by adding two sets of desulfurization towers and some selective catalytic reduction devices. We also optimized the design in accordance with new international safety regulations to ensure passengers feel more secure during their voyage," said Chen Jianwei, deputy general manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
The ship will see accelerated interior installations and systems commissioning, according to Adora Cruises, operator of the cruise liner. The vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of this year and will launch international routes from the Nansha International Cruise Home Port in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province.
"In terms of product and service design, we focused on creating an immersive maritime community with Lingnan cultural elements. We optimized both the entertainment and dining options to highlight Southern Cantonese culture. We also comprehensively upgraded the level of automation in passenger services by introducing smart customer service, facial recognition, and AI robots, which bring significant improvements in embarkation and disembarkation efficiency, as well as smart interactive experiences," said Li Ming, general manager of China Tourism Group's Huaxia Cruises which runs Adora Cruises.
The Lingnan culture refers to the regional Chinese culture of the regions of Lingnan, comprising what are now the provincial-level regions of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan as well as the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
