China's top political advisor Wang Huning met with Harvard University Professor Graham Allison in Beijing on Friday.
Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump maintain good interactions, providing important strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations to improve and move forward.
Noting this year marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), Wang said China will respond to the ever-changing international situation with certainty via its own development.
Wang stressed the Taiwan question is at the very core of China's core interests. China and the United States should strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, expand pragmatic cooperation, and find the right way to get along, injecting certainty and positive energy into the world, he said.
For his part, Allison said when international peace and order are gravely eroding, finding the right way for the two major countries to get along with each other is crucial for the world.
He hailed the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi for developing China-U.S. relations as highly enlightening.
Allison hopes that the United States and China will properly handle the Taiwan question and other issues to promote the steady development of bilateral relations, which also meets the expectations of the world.
