Major stock markets in the world slumped after the United States and Iran threatened to escalate hostilities, as the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran enter the fourth week.
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on social media Saturday that the U.S. would target Iranian power plants if the country fails to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
With less than 15 hours remaining, markets have reacted sharply, stoking fears of a broader energy conflict.
Asian equities tumbled Monday, by more than 6 percent in the Republic of Korea, and around 3.5 percent in Japan.
Chinese markets also closed lower, down over 3.6 percent.
European shares followed suit at the open, with Germany's DAX down around 2 percent, and major indexes in the UK, France and Italy falling roughly 1.3 to 1.7 percent.
