Residents in the southern Israeli city of Dimona recalled the terrifying moment when an Iranian missile hit the city on Saturday evening.

According to Israeli authorities, missile strikes from Iran on Saturday injured 175 people, including 10 seriously wounded, in Dimona and another southern Israeli city of Arad.

Local residents spoke of sights and sounds they had never experienced before.

"The explosion here was like amazing. Like just here, you can't believe the blast. And the influence like the elders and the people were not able to get out of their house and even make it to the basement. It was so blast and everyone heard it like so loud. It was something I have never heard before in my life," said Yair, a local.

Early warning sirens sent people to bomb shelters, likely saving many lives. Despite the extensive damage, there were no fatalities and only a few serious injuries.

Locals said a whole neighborhood was practically torn to the ground in Dimona, close to Israel's main nuclear research facility and reactor.

"What you see, you can not even believe what you see. As you can look around, [you] see the homes are destroyed. And as a residential area, and it hit so close to communities, so close to houses. Just mass destruction here, just mass destruction," said Yair.

Volunteers are trying to help ensure displaced people are being cared for.

"The houses are in a very bad shape and the people here need help from us. We came here, a team of volunteers, and we need to clean the houses and help the people that live here," said Yahli, a volunteer worker.
