U.S. President Donald Trump's conciliatory tone on Iran on Monday sent crude oil futures sharply lower.
Crude oil futures tumbled more than 10 percent on Monday after Trump said on social media that he had ordered the military to delay strikes on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days following what he described as "productive" talks with Iran.
The West Texas Intermediate for May delivery lost 10.1 U.S. dollars, or 10.28 percent, to settle at 88.13 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for May delivery decreased by 12.25 U.S. dollars, or 10.92 percent, to settle at 99.94 U.S. dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
