China's top legislator Zhao Leji on Wednesday met with Speaker of Azerbaijan's National Assembly Sahiba Gafarova in south China's Hainan Province.
Gafarova is in Hainan to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026, which is being held from Tuesday to Friday in Boao Town of Hainan's Qionghai City.
During the meeting, Zhao, who is chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, noted that China-Azerbaijan relations have entered a new stage of high-quality and all-round development.
China is willing to work with Azerbaijan, following the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to carry forward the friendly tradition of mutual support, create new space for win-win development, expand economic and trade investment, broaden connectivity, promote people-to-people bonds, and jointly advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, he said.
The NPC is ready to strengthen exchanges with the National Assembly of Azerbaijan to provide legal guarantees for practical cooperation between China and Azerbaijan, Zhao said.
He also introduced China's efforts in promoting high-quality economic development.
For her part, Gafarova said that the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference reflects China's important role in promoting dialogue and cooperation. Azerbaijan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields and deepen exchanges between their legislative bodies.
