Military means cannot solve fundamental issues in the Middle East, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing Monday in Beijing.

She made the remarks while responding to a media query about the situation in the Middle East.

"Military means cannot solve fundamental issues. The protraction of conflict and escalation of war do not serve the interests of any party.
