A celebration event was held on Thursday at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to celebrate the 2026 U.N. Chinese Language Day, bringing together nearly 300 attendees, including permanent representatives, diplomats and cultural figures from various countries.

Two themed exhibitions, reflecting the wisdom of Chinese characters and the craftsmanship of the characters, were presented at the venue.

Featuring graphic designs, audiovisual installations and selected pieces from the Museum of Chinese Arts and Crafts Masters, the exhibitions demonstrated in-depth fusion between the beauty of Chinese writing and traditional craftsmanship.

This year marks the fifth year for the U.N. Chinese Language Day to be celebrated at UNESCO headquarters. Over the past five years, the annual event has continuously introduced new formats of celebrations and enriched their content.

On this important UNESCO platform, the event has consistently demonstrated the unique beauty of Chinese characters and the profound cultural richness of the Chinese language. It has played a vital role in promoting the Chinese language internationally and has helped advance mutual respect and understanding between different civilizations.

France, one of the first countries to include Chinese in its national education system, has been a major witness to the Chinese language's growing global influence.

Language Days at the United Nations were set up to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity, and the Chinese Language Day falls on April 20. As China's global presence continues to grow, the U.N. Chinese Language Day is increasingly seen as a vital platform for fostering inter-cultural communication and deepening international understanding.
