"Lebanon calls for an immediate ceasefire, adherence to international resolutions, and the preservation of Lebanese sovereignty. However, this proposal faces internal division between the political inclination towards a ceasefire and the military control Hezbollah holds on the ground. Israel occupies Lebanese territory, and we witness daily incursions and clashes within Lebanese territory. This is the reality the Israeli army is attempting to impose -- a new security and military reality on Lebanese land -- which dictates new political conditions in negotiations, whether in the form of a technical truce or a broader political agreement. Hezbollah seeks to preserve Lebanese territory and repel this Israeli aggression. As for the United States, it consistently supports the Israeli prime minister. This support continues unabated, even as Washington works to manage, contain, and de-escalate the conflict without addressing its root causes."

"After the Lebanese front was stabilized during the negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, it seems that Israel found it necessary to break through these negotiations by starting direct negotiations between it and the Lebanese government. I believe that the scene is intertwined and complex politically and militarily, and it is certain that Hezbollah's weapons will not be taken away by military means. There is a long history between Israel and the Lebanese national resistance, and throughout this history, Israel has failed to achieve its goal of disarming Hezbollah. Therefore, this is another round that I believe will fail. But it is clear that there is an American and Israeli trend towards merging and shuffling the cards in the Lebanese arena."

A 10-day ceasefire is resetting dynamics on the Lebanese-Israeli front, opening a narrow window for nascent negotiations amid battlefield pressures and the weight of unresolved issues.

As initial talks in Washington concluded, direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel entered a new phase, coinciding with Friday's announcement of a 10-day ceasefire. Agreed to by the negotiating sides, the move aims to contain the situation, curb escalation, and buy time to advance the political process despite widening gaps in understanding.

However, regional experts warn the agreement remains fragile due to the conflict's complexities, particularly the role of Hezbollah, which maintains a strong presence in southern Lebanon but is not party to the talks.

This is the reality the Israeli army is attempting to impose -- a new security and military reality on Lebanese land -- which dictates new political conditions in negotiations, whether in the form of a technical truce or a broader political agreement," said Moataz Al-Saabi, a political and international affairs researcher in Syria.

"Hezbollah seeks to preserve Lebanese territory and repel this Israeli aggression. As for the United States, it consistently supports the Israeli prime minister. This support continues unabated, even as Washington works to manage, contain, and de-escalate the conflict without addressing its root causes," he added.

While easing tensions, the truce has not addressed the core disagreements. Sensitive issues remain at the forefront, as Israel insists on a strict security approach aimed at curtailing Hezbollah's military influence and disarming the group, while the Lebanese side focuses on consolidating the ceasefire as a prerequisite for any subsequent political transition.

"After the Lebanese front was stabilized during the negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, it seems that Israel found it necessary to break through these negotiations by starting direct negotiations between it and the Lebanese government. I believe that the scene is intertwined and complex politically and militarily, and it is certain that Hezbollah's weapons will not be taken away by military means," said Wafaa Qasouma, a writer and journalist in Syria specializing in political affairs.

Even if Israel cannot defeat Hezbollah, she continued, it may still prolong fighting to gain a more advantageous position.

"There is a long history between Israel and the Lebanese national resistance, and throughout this history, Israel has failed to achieve its goal of disarming Hezbollah. Therefore, this is another round that I believe will fail. But it is clear that there is an American and Israeli trend towards merging and shuffling the cards in the Lebanese arena," she said.

The 10-day ceasefire will test the parties' ability to manage security concerns alongside dialogue, while the region is watching the carefully calculated negotiation process—fraught with decades of accumulated complexity—in hopes that this temporary lull will translate into more lasting understandings.
