Mozambican President Daniel Chapo visited a number of Chinese factories during his three-day stay in central China's Hunan Province, seeking Chinese expertise in manufacturing to support Mozambique's infrastructure development and sustainable growth.

Chapo arrived in Changsha, the provincial capital city of Hunan, on Thursday for a week-long state visit to China, his first trip to the country since he took office in 2025.

His itinerary in Hunan took him to several advanced factories in the electricity, machinery manufacturing, and agricultural products processing sectors.

During his stay in the central China province, Chapo explored smart power solutions, witnessed the demonstration of intelligent earthmoving machinery, inspected a fully automated intelligent agricultural products processing factory, and personally tried out an electric reach stacker, getting a hands-on experience with China's manufacturing capacity.

"We know you have already entered the African market as you've mentioned our region, including Tanzania and South Africa. But we would like to have a similar factory in Mozambique as well. Therefore, we are going to start working on that immediately," Chapo said during the visit.

As an agricultural country, the rural population accounts for about two-thirds of the total population in Mozambique. Yet, its agricultural development has long been constrained by factors such as lack of technology, market information and infrastructure.

With transforming the infrastructure and achieving agricultural modernization as major development goals for Mozambique, Chapo said China offers many much-needed solutions to key problems hindering Mozambique's national development.

Throughout his Hunan visit, Chapo has repeatedly expressed the willingness to invite Chinese enterprises to participate in Mozambique's modernization efforts.

At the China-Mozambique Business Forum held on Friday, representatives from both countries signed several strategic framework agreements covering areas such as green energy and biomedicine.

Chapo said that China's 15th Five-Year Plan for national socioeconomic development in the 2026-2030 period aligns closely with Mozambique's current Five-Year Program, expressing the hope that deepened cooperation across fields would open a new chapter in China-Mozambique relations.

"In terms of infrastructure construction, the development plans of China and Mozambique will promote joint cooperation. Chapo is on a state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi will hold a welcome ceremony and a welcome banquet for him, and the two presidents will have talks. Chapo will also visit Qinghai Province in northwest China during the stay in China.
