The United States and Iran exchanged accusations of ceasefire violations on Sunday, and U.S. President Donald Trump threatened new attacks if Iran does not accept his deal.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of committing a "total violation" of the ceasefire agreement taking effect on April 8 as "Iran decided to fire bullets" in the Strait of Hormuz a day earlier.
Iran's closing the Strait of Horzum will cause it to lose 500 million dollars a day, while the United States will suffer no losses as many ships are heading to various U.S. states to load energy, according to Trump's post.
Trump also said that U.S. representatives will travel to Islamabad on Monday for a new round of negotiations.
The United States is "offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don't, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran," Trump added.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a social media post that the United States’ so-called "blockade" of Iranian ports or coastal areas violated the Pakistan-mediated ceasefire and was "unlawful and criminal," adding that it amounted to collective punishment of the Iranian people and constituted war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Baghaei said the U.S. move violates Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and constitutes an act of aggression under Article 3(c) of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, which explicitly includes the blockade of a state’s ports or coasts among such acts.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remained at a standstill on Sunday after the United States imposed a naval blockade on Iran, prompting Iran to reassert control over the strategic waterway.
