The U.S. maritime blockade against Iran has violated international law and heightened tensions, said Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Amir Saeid Iravani, Monday at a UN Security Council's open debate on the safety and protection of waterways in the maritime domain.

Since February 28, military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran have disrupted shipping security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman, said Iravani.

The Strait of Hormuz is increasingly being used to support regional military attacks, including the transfer of military equipment for hostile actions against Iran. Such military acts have exposed international shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to growing and unprecedented risks, he said.

"The United States has continued its internationally wrongful act by imposing maritime blockade, unlawfully seizing Iranian commercial vessels and detaining their crews. These dangerous escalating measures violate international law, breached the UN charter," said Iravani.

"Responsibility for any disruption, obstruction or other interference with the maritime transport in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz lies directly with the aggressors -- the United States and its supporters whose unlawful and destabilizing action have heightened tensions and endangered maritime safety and freedom of navigation," he said.

Le blocus maritime imposé par les États-Unis contre l’Iran viole le droit international et accroît les tensions, a déclaré lundi le représentant permanent iranien auprès des Nations unies, Amir Saeid Iravani, lors d’un débat public du Conseil de sécurité consacré à la sécurité des voies navigables.

Depuis le 28 février, les actions militaires des États-Unis et d’Israël contre l’Iran perturbent la sécurité du transport maritime dans le golfe Persique, le détroit d’Ormuz et le golfe d’Oman, a affirmé M. Iravani.

Le détroit d’Ormuz est de plus en plus utilisé pour soutenir des attaques militaires régionales, y compris le transfert d’équipements militaires destinés à des actions hostiles contre l’Iran. De tels actes exposent la navigation internationale dans le golfe Persique et le détroit d’Ormuz à des risques croissants et sans précédent, a-t-il ajouté.

"Les États-Unis poursuivent leur acte internationalement illicite en imposant un blocus maritime, en saisissant illégalement des navires commerciaux iraniens et en détenant leurs équipages. قال أمير سعيد إيرفاني، مندوب إيران الدائم لدى الأمم المتحدة، يوم الاثنين/27 أبريل الجاري، إن الحصار البحري الأمريكي المفروض على إيران ينتهك القانون الدولي، ويزيد من حدة التوترات.

وأضاف إيرفاني خلال جلسة نقاش مفتوحة لمجلس الأمن الدولي حول سلامة وحماية الممرات المائية في المجال البحري، أن العمليات العسكرية التي شنّتها الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ضد إيران منذ 28 فبراير قد أدت إلى تعطيل أمن الملاحة في الخليج ومضيق هرمز وخليج عُمان.

وأوضح أن مضيق هرمز يستخدم بشكل متزايد لدعم الهجمات العسكرية الإقليمية، بما في ذلك نقل المعدات العسكرية لاستخدامها في أعمال عدائية ضد إيران. وأكد أن مثل هذه الأعمال العسكرية قد عرّضت الملاحة الدولية في الخليج ومضيق هرمز لمخاطر متزايدة وغير مسبوقة.

وذكر إيرفاني: "واصلت الولايات المتحدة أعمالها غير المشروعة دوليا بفرض حصار بحري والاستيلاء غير القانوني على سفن تجارية إيرانية واحتجاز طواقمها. وهذه الإجراءات الخطيرة المتصاعدة تنتهك القانون الدولي، وتخالف ميثاق الأمم المتحدة."
