"State-to-state exchanges should not target a third party or harm the interests of a third party. Under the pretext of 'freedom and openness,' what the Japanese side is actually doing is provoking bloc confrontation and creating exclusive cliques. Such practices run counter to the shared vision of regional countries and the international community to seek peace, pursue development and promote cooperation, and are unpopular."

Japan should stop stoking bloc confrontation and forming close and exclusive cliques under the pretext of "freedom and openness," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
Lin was responding to a media query concerning Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's plan to outline a new version of the free and open Indo-Pacific concept during her visit to Vietnam.
"State-to-state exchanges should not target a third party or harm the interests of a third party. Under the pretext of 'freedom and openness,' what the Japanese side is actually doing is provoking bloc confrontation and creating exclusive cliques. Such practices run counter to the shared vision of regional countries and the international community to seek peace, pursue development and promote cooperation, and are unpopular," the spokesman said.
