Japan should stop stoking bloc confrontation and forming close and exclusive cliques under the pretext of "freedom and openness," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Lin was responding to a media query concerning Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's plan to outline a new version of the free and open Indo-Pacific concept during her visit to Vietnam.

"State-to-state exchanges should not target a third party or harm the interests of a third party. Under the pretext of 'freedom and openness,' what the Japanese side is actually doing is provoking bloc confrontation and creating exclusive cliques.
