China's May Day holiday box office grossed more than 300 million yuan (about 43.9 million U.S. dollars) as of 17:00 Saturday, the second day of the five-day holiday, according to film data platform Maoyan.
Leading the holiday sales chart presently are the crime thriller "Cold War 1994," the suspense thriller "Vanishing Point", and the Hollywood blockbuster and sequel "The Devil Wears Prada 2". The two top thrillers have contributed around 60 percent of the single-day box office revenue.
"Cold War 1994" is a prequel to the long-running "Cold War" police thriller franchise, set in Hong Kong on the eve of the city's return to the motherland in 1997. And "Vanishing Point" tells a bizarre and mystery case that affects all parties involved.
Apart from these three films, comedy "Being towards Death", dramas "Front Teeth" and "Dear You" also posted impressive box office numbers.
In addition, the total box office of China has surpassed 13.2 billion yuan (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars) as of Saturday.
