Police of China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have carried out their first joint law enforcement operation, cracking down on telecom and online fraud in Dubai, China's Ministry of Public Security said on Sunday.
The joint police operation dismantled nine fraud dens and captured 276 suspects, the ministry said.
According to an initial investigation, the fraud rings allegedly used social media platforms to approach victims and establish fake romantic relationships. After gaining their trust, the suspects induced victims to invest in so-called high-return cryptocurrency projects, resulting in financial losses.
The joint operation represents a significant achievement in international law enforcement cooperation by Chinese police, the ministry said, adding that the Chinese police will deepen practical cooperation with more countries, carry out joint operations, resolutely dismantle telecom fraud dens, make every effort to apprehend suspects involved in telecom fraud, and effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of people in all countries.
