China and the U.S. will secure economic and trade consultation outcomes and their effective implementation based on common understandings reached between the heads of state of the two countries, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

Guo Jiakun, the spokesman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing in response to a question on China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation.

"The competent Chinese authorities have elaborated on the preliminary outcomes of the latest China-U.S. economic and trade consultations. During U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China, the heads of state of China and the U.S. had in-depth discussions on China-U.S. economic and trade ties, pointing out the direction and providing safeguards for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries," Guo said.

Trump paid a state visit to China from May 13 to 15.

China's Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday elaborated on the preliminary outcomes of the recently held China-U.S. economic and trade consultations, covering issues including tariffs, agricultural trade, rare earth export controls and aircraft trade.
